Dr Jaz Ampaw-Farr's book, Because of You, This is Me (a beautifully written book for teachers who want to really, meaningfully help the humans they teach) took me a very long time to read. Not because of its own length, but because every paragraph or two I’d need to put it down and process what I just read. I spent more time reflecting on my own life and my own interactions with young people than I did reading it.

Leaving aside Jaz’s incisive insights, and the off-the-wall hilarious humour splattered across what is otherwise quite heavy reading (she’s been through a lot, and has a lot to say as a result), this book will absolutely make you stop and think. Which is good, because these topics are worth thinking about in great depth, especially when Jaz’s stories bring home the importance of getting it right with the humans in the room.
